Stephenson Conveyor Guarding

Sector: Personal Care

Customer's issue:
The client had recently installed a new material (soap) dispenser for their Maz Line 3. As part of the new soap dispenser project, the client also installed 2 overhead conveyors which lead into their packing area.

Due to the nature of the material (soap pellets), when the conveyor looped around overhead it dropped quite a lot of the material on the floor. This had made the process very time consuming in additional hours cleaning the wasted soap up. In addition to this, the material is an expensive specialist soap, and once this hits the floor it cannot be reused again adding to the cost and affecting profitability.

The creation/production process:

The sales and projects teams visited the site to see the issue and discuss how severely it was impacting costs. From there the team measured and modelled the line and designed 2 bespoke guarding solutions for them. The solution the client chose was to fix tray guards to the bottom of the overhead conveyor to catch any falling material from above. These clear trays could then be removed and fed back into the dispenser meaning none or minimal loss of material, time and more importantly money.

The lead time from enquiry to completion:

Once we priced the guarding solution for the client, we sent over a proposal and the two concepts. The client approved the concept and the proposal, we manufactured the parts and installed the whole project within five weeks.  Another cost saving exercise (which helped the client) was when ActionPlas performed the installation. We chose the most efficient and cost saving time which was the down time prior to Christmas. This meant minimal wastage and impact on the business, to which the client was even more grateful.
