Manufacturing Buyer

Job Definition

As our Manufacturing Buyer, you will be responsible for managing all purchasing activities, from raising purchase orders to negotiating with suppliers and ensuring timely delivery. Additionally, you will oversee the Goods In and Warehouse team, ensuring efficient material handling and accurate inventory management. Your previous buying experience in a manufacturing environment equips you with a keen understanding of the procurement landscape and its complexities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and raise purchase orders for goods, materials, components, and services.

  • Manage supplier relationships through regular surveillance exercises.

  • Collaborate with the Goods In and Warehouse team to ensure timely material allocation, receipt, and accurate stockholding.

  • Support the Technical team and other relevant departments, acting as an interface between suppliers and internal stakeholders.

  • Identify and communicate risks, proactively resolving supplier issues that may impact business operations.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Negotiate with suppliers on price, quality, delivery, and invoice issues, ensuring a professional and consistent approach.

  • Conduct research to identify new suppliers, projects, components, sources, and methods.

  • Achieve profit targets and manage budgets within the purchasing function.

  • Collate and analyze data, preparing comprehensive reports for the Finance Director.

Skills

  • Ability to prepare reports and use of appropriate mode of communication. Must be proficient at analyzing data, building reporting and making strategic recommendations based on data and trends

  • Previous buying experience in manufacturing environment

  • Read and understand engineering drawings

  • MRP experience (experience in setting up MRP advantageous)

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work to tight deadlines

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Analytical and problem-solving ability

  • Persistence and the ability to influence others

  • Skills in numerical and statistical analysis

  • Attention to detail is imperative
